Fishing Tree

An old oak growing out of the water near the edge of the creek , its trunk hollowed. Thick roots extending down into the layers of sediment below. Catfish swim in, and around the roots. The oak splits in two forming a U-shape. The perfect spot to sit and fish, or just to watch the swimming fish. Streaming sunlight shines down through the water. The musty damp clings on the warm breeze. Sitting in the fishing tree, holding my fishing pole. Line cast, bobber floating. patiently waiting.

Monochrome shades of gray

Rain drops hit against the window pane, collecting on the glass, slowly rolling down. Everything reflecting back as monochrome film. In these shades of gray, I find a peaceful bliss. Thunder cracks sending a boom rattling these old windows. Flashes of lightening shoot across the sky spanning out like tiny tree roots. The rain becomes heavy, and steady. Gusts of wind blow through the trees. The storm is strong, but its stamina will fade to a gentle rain. The storm will soon evanesce, to a sun filled sky melting away the monochrome shades of gray. Bringing forth a brightly kaleidoscopic rainbow.

A good day’s hard work

Completing a good day’s hard work is one of the most rewarding feelings. To stand back, and see the transformation of an undone task finally completed. One of my favorite tasks of Summer would be mowing grass. And once I’m finished mowing I like to grab a big glass of something cold to drink, sit on my porch, and just look out at my yard seeing how nice, and uniform the landscaping looks. Today I had a truck load of firewood that needed unloaded, and stacked in the basement entrance. It felt so great once I was finished stacking that last piece of firewood. It looks nice, and neat stacked in rows. Instead of just thrown in a pile. Plus I’m grateful to have the wood to heat my home on these chilly nights. Not much beats the feeling of accomplishing a task, and standing back looking at the progress made.

Skating on the frozen pond

In the colder Winter months there’s a pond of substantial size, which freezes over. We always make a small hole through the ice to measure its thickness. The ice usually measures between 8 to 12 inches in these particularly cold months. Strong enough for ice skating. The landscape around the pond is hilly, and there are many trees along the one side of the pond. Which leads into a heavily, dense wooded area. The sun shines brightly from behind the clouds reflecting on the snow covered ground. Making the snow sparkle, and glisten. We use shovels, and big flat head brooms to remove all the snow from the surface of the pond to make it ready for ice skating. Sometimes we use the flat head brooms as hockey sticks, and an old snuff (Skoal) can as a puck. Just goofing around, and having fun. Pretending to play Hockey with our improvised sports gear. Other times we have family get togethers at this frozen wonderland, and bring thermoses full of hot cocoa, and marshmallows to top. All the children especially love this time of year. We all skate around the pond. Sometimes fluffy white snowflakes slowly, gently fall from the sky collecting on our coats, and hats. This is one of the most enjoyable pastimes of Winter.

Merry dancers

Polar lights,
Twins of the night,
Lighting bright,
The night sky.

The Merry dancers
swirl,and glow
as they put on their show.

Vivid,

Lucid,

Green serpintines.

A powerful energy of magnetism
Pulsating through the night sky.

Mystifying all below.

Dark hours

Maybe its the dark hours that bring the lonely. The somber, gloom that swallows all, or the quite which follows. Maybe darkness just feeds on darkness in the absence of light. Demons dancing in the shadows. Waiting for day break , to incinerate the dancing demons. Bringing back the bright, and bustle of day.

Lily of the Valley

Spellbinding lily of the valley, little white bells silently swaying. An elegant sweet fragrance fills the Spring air. May bells sending signals to all the bee’s, and butterflies. They float, and buzz around drinking in all the sweet nector, and pollinate flower to flower.

Loving you

If time could be frozen stopped, and suspended in an endless moment, I would spend an eternity with you. If I could go back, and pick any memory to relive, I would pick our favorite day. If I could flip through this photo album touching any picture to be transported through the shades of Polaroid, I would choose a picture with you. Just to see you, to touch you, just to speak to you. If time could be rewound again, and again, I would warp it like my favorite cassette tape. Playing it until it would no longer play. Wearing down B side then flipping to A. Singing along to the song of you, Until my voice could no longer utter a sound.I would stay reliving that day. I would tell you that I loved you before we parted ways. I would tell you, I couldn’t imagine my life without you in it. A life without you would be dull, and faded. Absent of brightness, and warmth. If time could be frozen, suspended in an endless moment, I would spend that moment loving you.

Gray sky Autumn Day

The sky is a masterful shade of gray, stretching far, and wide. A cold drizzling rain falls to the soggy, leaf-strewn ground. A slight breeze, and trembling leaves. Its a gray sky Autumn day. Spectacular in its own way. Snuggled up in fuzzy fleece, so soft to the touch. So warm, and cozy. Keeping the cold at bay. On this gray sky Autumn day.
